Embrace your inner flower dog

We were away in York Maine last week for a friend's wedding. The happy couple have an adorable dog named Lexi which they adopted from a shelter. Lexi was actually a Hurricane Katrina rescue dog. When Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, more than 250,000 pets were left to fend for themselves.

Lexi was rescued by Nick and Patti from Haverhill Massachusetts and the rest is history. She is adored by her owners and actually played a very big role in their wedding last week. Lexi was the flower dog! 

She was certainly the most adorable flower dog we had ever seen and she took her role very seriously. Aside from falling asleep in the back seat of our car after the wedding photos were taken, she shined the entire day. Lexi really embraced her inner flower dog.

Lexi even had her nails painted for the occasion. 

We had a great time in Maine. Congrats Patti & Nick! We hope you are having a blast in Hawaii! I'm sure you both are very proud of Lexi. She really was a beautiful flower dog!

Have you or someone you know lost a pet?

If your pet has gone missing, immediately contact the dog officer and/or animal shelters in your area.

Then contact GRACIE Alert at [email protected]. GRACIE Alert activates an urgent blog post about a missing pet that is broadcasted over the internet and shared in several social networking sites. The goal of a GRACIE Alert is to instantly notify the entire pet community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of a pet.

Gracie's Bark is happy to spotlight any dogs in need of a good home. We are very willing to do our part in finding the loving homes these dogs need, it is the least we can do. Gracie has truly been an inspiration to me and I don't know what we would do without her. This is my way of giving back to the pet community for providing me with such a wonderful dog.

Gracie is half Australian Shepherd and half Lab, extremely energetic, hard-headed and a sweetheart.

Gracie's Memorial Day Weekend Swim

Gracie had her first swim of 2011 over at Gooseberry Island this past weekend. We still enjoyed ourselves even though the sun was struggling to break through all the fog!

Check Out Gracie's June 2011 Spotlight Dog Named Will

Kerin & Will contacted Gracie's Bark to share their story. Gracie was so excited to spotlight Will this month!

"This is our pup Will! He is a one-and-a-half-year old Chocolate Lab. His full AKC name is Cedarbay’s Where There’s A Will. And usually where there’s a Will, there is something going on!

Will’s all time favorite activity is swimming! He would go into any body of water at any time of the year if we let him. Once this winter it was so cold at Webb Park there were mini icebergs in the ocean and we turned around for one second only to find will was paddling out to retrieve one of them. He nearly gave us a heart attack! The beach is definitely Will’s favorite place to play.

Our pup finds himself in the middle of all kinds of mischief all the time! Especially when it comes to things he chews. He has mauled three pairs of my Dad’s boot, countless old navy flip-flops, and has attempted to steal so many socks but, thank goodness, has never actually ingested any! Will also loves to dig holes and bury things, like his chewed raw meaty bones or his sister’s sneakers. Our mom’s garden will never be the same!

Will is an AKC S.T.A.R. puppy and a Canine Good Citizen! Both of these awards are designed to reward responsible dog owners and dogs that are trained to be “good citizens” at home and in public. We also are participating in a class with Dog B.O.N.E.S and soon Will will be a trained, registered and insured therapy dog! We’ll be able to bring him into nursing homes, hospitals, schools and rehabilitation facilities to help provide therapeutic support for the elderly, disabled or the young. Will absolutely loves kids and he will endure any sort of abuse from tail pulling to little kids sitting on his head so we think he is going to be the perfect therapy dog!"
